Gifted children in a fruit basket

Stories of gifted children.

In the middle of 2006, I signed my 8 year old child up for the SPROCKETS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL Movie Review competition merely for her to become interested in writing; the thought of her winning never even crossed my mind. Imagine how shocked I was when 2 weeks later, I received a phone call saying that my child had been one of the 12 accepted into the SPROCKETS JURY out of high hundreds!

Later in the year, my child passed the gifted test and my husband and I were stunned! My child described the test as easy, and especially amazed us by saying that the answer to the question '
Why does the government inspect meat before putting it in stores?' was simple: To make sure it's not rotten! It was a hard descision for me to make, especially because we were quite satisfied with the french immersion education, but I understood I had no choice when I realized that my child had spent all her school breaks wandering around and tracing patterns on a wall because she had nobody to spend them with. I moved my child to a school with a gifted program a year later, and she gained about a dozen friends and excelled in schoolwork. My child is now 12 and still moving strong!
